A positional language

Four places.
Four syllables.

Takadimi names where an attack lands inside the beat. Ta is always the downbeat; Ka, Di, Mi divide the space evenly after it.

Start by whispering all four syllables and accenting the written attacks. Then remove the silent syllables. You’ll begin to recognize each rhythm as one shape, not a calculation.
